I think it is now a great travesty that the original intent of the Do-not-call list ( namely 'don't bother me under any circumstances, whether live or by prerecorded message or by fax') is now in jeopardy. We do not want the live telemarketer calls, we do not want the pre-recorded calls, we do not want the junk faxes which expensively eat up toner and ink or film, as well as paper. There is also no way to block those numbers from your line via the phone company's local service either, since they are all originating from 1-800 or out-of-area/long distance or unavailable numbers. Those of us who originally signed up our list of phone numbers as long as a year ago onto the do-not-call list, did so in good faith, thinking that that was the end of these intrusive, aggravating and bothersome calls to our homes, cell phones and small businesses. If the rules are changed on us now, then there is no point to having a list at all since the private or personal time of the consumer would not be preserved according to the original intent of the list . Our meals, homework/study time with children, and generally already limited peace and quiet family times would be gone. I feel that the public trust would be betrayed for those of us who have already registered with the do-not-call list under the old rules. We would have been duped into providing an even more comprehensive list of phone numbers, many now unlisted, to telemarketers who seem to be now aided and abetted by the very government people who are supposed to be protecting our quiet times and privacy. I guess it's because the telemarketers have more money and political lobbying clout than we do. That's America for you- a typical bait and switch on the consumer ! This is my protest. I do not want the calls under ANY form or guise to any of my numbers, whether it is three a day, three a month or three a year. Those of us who took/take the time to sign up for the do-not-call list, have sent a message loud and clear by that very action. Even one unsolicited call per year, much less per day, is too many !
