TTB ANNOUNCES ELECTRONIC TAX PAYMENTS

Washington, D.C. – In keeping with its commitment to provide quality customer service while reducing its customers’ paperwork burden, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has introduced a totally electronic filing and tax payment system. This new web-based system, entitled Pay.gov, will enable alcohol and tobacco federal excise taxpayers to file and pay their TTB tax returns, as well as many of their operational reports, faster, easier and less expensively.

TTB, in conjunction with the Financial Management Service, began a pilot program using Pay.gov in 2000. TTB is announcing the availability of this cost effective, efficient alternative to writing and processing checks to its 5,000 taxpayers. Use of Pay.gov is voluntary and requires no special software. Payments can be submitted electronically, by way of an Internet connection, through the Federal Reserve Bank via Automated Clearing House (ACH) or FedWire.

Instructions on enrollment and use of Pay.gov are available at http://www.ttb.gov/epayment.htm.
