An optician is available on alternate Tuesdays from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon to dispense prescription safety glasses to eligible civil service and contract employees. In order to use this service you will need the following:
:
- A written prescription, less than 2 years old, for the strength of your glasses
- Civil servants: Form 59 signed by the Safety Office
- Contractors: A form specific to your company that authorizes you to receive the service
A prescription for glasses is prescribed by an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. An optician uses that prescription to grind the glass to the appropriate strength and fits them into frames.
Safety glasses are designed to meet ANSI standards and will have permanently-attached side shields. It is up to each contract to determine the types of frames and lenses that are made available to their employees by working with Eye-To-Eye Optical. Their office telephone is 826-3392 and the contact person is Donna Meland. The employee will make one visit to the optician in the NASA Langley Clinic to place the order and a second visit, usually in two weeks, to pick-up the completed glasses.
The Optical Dispensary is located in the clinic at 10 W. Taylor St., Building 1149. Check in at the front desk to receive the service.
