Red Book Viewer 4.2

Overview

The Red Book Viewer is a free tool for viewing USPTO grant and application Red Book data and EFS data using Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. A temporary environment is created in which required external files (DTDs/style sheets/etc.) are resolved. For Grant red Book V2.4 the SGML file is converted to xml for rendering. The program was tested on Windows XP.

What's New?

• Red Book Viewer 4.2 is capable to view USPTO patent grant and application XML documents of Version 4.2-2006-08-23 DTDs. It is using new style sheets to render the patent XML documents. The drawing images will be embeded inside the page rather than open a new Internet Explorer Window. A drop down list and navigation buttons are used to browse through the drawing images.
• Red Book Viewer 4.1 is capable to view USPTO patent grant and application XML documents of Version 4.1-2005-08-25 DTDs, also known as ST 36 DTDs.
• Since version 4.0 the Red Book Viewer has the capability to render USPTO E-Filing Specification or the most current ABX zipped files. Users can select the EFS or ABX files that will be opened by default. The options include EFS specification, Fee Transmittal, Patent Assignment, Application Data Sheet and Information Disclosure Statement. For ABX file, user can choose Application-body, Declaration, Request, Fee Sheet and Package Data XML files to open. The XML files can also be opened by choosing the file in the Red Book Viewer Window and click render button.
• Red Book Viewer has been modified to provide an option for users to remove the DTD DOCTYPE reference in us-patent-grant, us-patent-application and application-body XML instances.

The Red Book Viewer is packed using Microsoft Windows Installer. Click here to download redbookviewer4.2.0.2.msi (approximately 2.3MB). Here are some sample old Red Book Documents redbooksamples.zip (approximately 1.1MB).

A Tiff viewer and barcode font are required to render the patent XML documents correctly.

We use a free Tiff Viewer from Alternatiff. Visit http://www.alternatiff.com to download. Select Start->Settings->ControlPanel>Fonts>File_InslallNewFont and install the bar code font from your Red Book Viewer installation folder\Other Installations\code39.ttf.

Usages:

To get started, execute the Red Book Viewer shortcut on your desk-top and browse to the Default Application Red Book Sample Data and select one or more zipped files.

You can drag and drop multiple zipped files to application windows or the icon.

While you browse the folders in Windows Explorer, you can right click on Red Book Zipped file and choose Send To Shortcut of Red Book Viewer.exe
