PIANIST LUCERNE DESA TO PERFORM AT BROOKHAVEN LAB, JUNE 3

Upton, NY - The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory will present a concert by pianist Lucerne DeSa on Wednesday, June 3, at 8 p.m. in the Laboratory's Berkner Hall. The concert is free, but donations are accepted.

Lucerne DeSa has performed solo in such diverse locations as Middlebury College in Vermont, the McPherson College in Kansas and the University of California, Irvine. She also has performed with clarinetist Marcus Eley at the Cité Universitaire de Paris, the Los Angeles Museum of Art and the Old First Church concert series in San Francisco. Ms. DeSa and Mr. Eley have recently completed their first recording, "Welcome Home," released by Arabesque Records in March. Ms. DeSa has won numerous competitions, including the Southwestern Youth Music Festival and the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition.

The June 3 concert will be the second solo performance for Ms. DeSa at Brookhaven Lab. The program for the upcoming concert consists of selections from Enrique Granados' Goyescas, selections from Isaac Albeniz's Suite Expañola, Ernest Nazareth's Three Tangos, selections from Heitor Villa-Lobos' Cirandas, and Alberto Ginastera's Sonata No.1, Opus 22.

While there is no charge for admission, donations to the Brookhaven Employees Recreation Association Concert Committee are important to help fund the concert series. Donors who make a single contribution of $25 or more for the entire season will be listed in each concert program for the rest of the season.

For more information, call (516)344-3550 for a recorded message, which is available during the two weeks immediately preceding the concert. To speak to someone in person, call Brookhaven Lab's Public Affairs Office at (516)344-2345, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 on the Long Island Expressway.
