February Performances at New Orleans Jazz NHP

Wednesday, February 1 Lars Edegran 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Lars Edegran leads our piano hour with performances of traditional jazz and ragtime.

Friday, February 3 Spotlight on the Clarinet with Doreen Ketchens 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Clarinetist Doreen Ketchens shares some of her experiences playing jazz clarinet, but not without plenty of hip shaking musical accompaniment erupting from her and the band.

Saturday, February 4 Shades of Praise 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Shades of Praise, the New Orleans inter-racial gospel choir has been busy providing hope and a glimpse into what the city could be like. Stylistically, this energetic choir mixes a variety of gospel styles with a heavy dose of New Orleans funk.

Saturday, February 18 John Boutte 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. To say John Boutte possesses an unforgettable soulful voice is an understatement. Backed by amazing musicians and a repertoire reflecting New Orleans’ musical diversity, John Boutte is the real deal!

Saturday, February 25 New Wave Brass Band 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Led by Oscar Washington, the New Wave Brass Band is steeped in the sounds of traditional brass bands, but always willing to funk things up a little during Carnival season.

These activities are free and open to the public and will take place in the park’s Visitor Center at 916 N. Peters Street, unless specified. The Visitor Center is the site of programs and music performances relating to the origins, development and progression of America’s original art form – jazz.
