Transferring Money

There are two options for receiving money from the U.S.
The money will arrive in The Netherlands within the hour.

Option 1: Western Union

Depositors in the United States

Depositors who have a major credit card with a sufficient limit may phone Western Union at the telephone number above.  Otherwise, the depositor should go to the nearest Western Union Office in the U.S. and purchase a money order for the desired amount and request that the funds be transmitted by the “WILL CALL SYSTEM”.

You may also wire funds online via Western Union through their website.

Recipient in The Netherlands

If you have had money sent through Western Union, you should call their free phone number 0800-736-3666 [Open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 13:00].  They will be able to confirm receipt of funds and give you the name and address of the closest Western Union agent to you.

Western Union is represented locally by GWK Travelex, by Pott Change and by the main post office (hoofdpostkantoor)  in Amsterdam.  (Please note that the main post office will cease Western Union representation on July 31, 2008.)  Opening times vary between 08:00 -22:00.  Two central locations in Amsterdam are:

  • GWK Travelex, Damrak 86,  1012 LP Amsterdam, phone (020) 627 2731
  • Pott Change, Damrak 95/BG, 1012 LJ Amsterdam, phone (020) 626 3658

Official Identification is required to collect funds.

However, Potts Change, Damrak 95, 1012 LP  Amsterdam, (020) 626-3658 will pay out a maximum of  €500.00 upon the presentation  of a  recent police report, test question, the name of the sender and the transaction  number. Open 08:15-20:00 daily.

Option 2: Moneygram

Depositors in the United States

Funds can transferred by electronic bank transfer via their website, or by calling their number toll free number.

Recipient in The Netherlands

MoneyGram’s  free phone number to call in The Netherlands is 0800-023-3880.

Moneygram is represented by GWK Travelex  with offices at main train stations and tourist cities.   Opening times vary between 08:00 – 22:00.  Two central locations are:

  • Amsterdam Central Station (020) 6247-2731
  • Schiphol Airport (020) 653-5121

Official Identification is required to collect funds.

However, any Travelex/GWK office, will pay out a maximum of €500.00 upon the presentation of a recent police report, test question, the name of the sender and the transaction number.

Changing Money

Money can be changed from dollars to euro at the following locations. Fees may apply and rates of exchange may vary.
