Oral health in HIV+ patients, represents a problem with social character for the venezuelan population. Every day increase the number of people infected with HIV or having AIDS. For this reason, the dental professionals should be formed in a theoretical and practical points of view to offer a wide knowledge in an integral way, covering the oral necessities of each one of this patients. According to this philosophy in 1999, a dental program for HIV/AIDS patients, arises as a student initiative, in which oral attention is given to this discriminated sector that require dental care. At the same time, these voluntary students are formed on a base of integral attention under strict norms of biosecurity and enlarging them knowledge on the last scientific advances related to HIV/AIDS. The methodology of this dental program is developed in such way that an interaction exits between the dental student and the seropositive patient. All the procedures are evaluated by diverse dental specialists that, in the same way as the students, lend their services in a voluntary way. We have been assisted these patients in diverse dental areas as oral education, prevention, operative, periodontic, endodontic, oral surgery, oral medicine and prothesis. We also participate on direct way with diverse public and private organisms that fight against the HIV/AIDS problem. We designed and practice a Cutaneous Post-Injury Protocol that included antiretroviral drugs that provide a secure work environment to our professors and students. Finally, we are expected to form this voluntary personal, as a future dental profesionals having a better preparation that allows offer every day a better quality of dental care for the HIV venezuelan population.
