Narbonne House Archaeology at the Narbonne House Finer pottery and porcelain was also found during the archeological excavations, ranging in quality from everyday redware to Chinese porcelain that was only used for important occasions. Left: an English mochaware bowl. The interior is glazed white, and the exterior has stripes of black and brown. On the large brown stripe in the center is one of the beautiful fern or feather like patterns made by dripping black glaze with a high acid content onto the wet brown glaze. Center: a redware bowl. These large, shallow redware bowls were often called "milk pans" because the shape was the right one for holding fresh milk while the cream rose to the top. This milk pan has a reddish-brown glaze and a spiral design of yellow glaze. Right: a Chinese porcelain teacup, with a scene of a pagoda by a lake painted in blue.
