Three university students and a Quartz Hill High School junior learned about Dryden this summer as ASandM interns.

The students included Lilianna Arevalo, who will be a Quartz Hill High School junior this year; Jeannine Frock, an education major at the University of Dayton, Ohio; Jennifer Hansen, an aerospace engineer graduate student at Penn State University, University Park Center, Pa.; and Natalie Davis, a journalism and English student at Western Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va.

"I am learning lots of things, especially organizational skills. It's neat to be from the area and meet so many new people from all over," Arevalo said.

Arevalo worked with Norma Navarro, Dryden coordinator of student programs, contacting colleges and universities to learn about co-operative education and internship programs at institutions of higher learning. She also helped students coming to Dryden to organize their time here.

Frock, who intends to return to Dryden next summer, worked at the front desk at the Public Affairs, Commercialization and Education (PACE) Office. She said she learned office, management and people skills.

"There is so much here that it is not possible to do at home. I have seen so much and met so many great new friends. The entire NASA experience is something you can't pass up. It is very worthwhile and beneficial," Frock said.

Hansen returned for a second summer. She worked on several projects including water tunnel tests.

"Coming back really gave me an advantage. Already knowing people and what's what helped start off this summer. This is real world experience and I've always wanted to work for NASA, so this is a dream come true," Hansen said.

Davis, who also returned for a second summer, worked for the Center's newspaper, the X-Press.

"Being here for the second summer has built my confidence and taught me many things about the field of journalism. It's been real fun. I'm sad to leave," said Davis.
