FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Las Vegas, Nev. (February 3, 2009) – Chef Jay’s Food Products is expanding products to the voluntary recall of some of its branded food products that contain peanut butter because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products contain peanut butter manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), who previously voluntarily recalled certain lots of its peanut butter and peanut butter paste because these products could be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/  or call 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

The expanded recall by PCA recalls all peanuts and peanut products processed in its Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007.   Although the majority of peanuts and peanut butter used in Chef Jay’s Food Products are not received from this facility, Chef Jay’s Food Products would like to voluntary add the additional products to the recall list.  Chef Jay’s Food Products has identified (5) five additional items to include in the recall that contain the specified lots of peanut butter and peanuts recalled by PCA.  The following products, in all sizes and packages, with the “Best By” dates ranging from 20/Oct/09 thru 20/Dec/09 are added to the recall:

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Tri-O-Plex Bar (118 gram)- UPC # 6-78991-00221-3

The following products, in all sizes and packages, with the “Best By” dates ranging from 06/Sept/09 thru 16/Jan/10 were included in the first recall issued on January 21, 2009:

The expanded recall also includes these items that are expired with the “Best By” dates ranging from 01/Jan/08 thru 31/Dec/08.

These products were sold on the Internet, nutrition/health food stores and gyms throughout the United States and Europe.  No other Chef Jay’s products or flavors are included in this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them immediately but may retain the package with the “Best By” dates ranging 20/Oct/09 thru 20/Dec/09 in order to receive replacement product. Consumers with questions regarding product replacement can find these details at www.chefjays.com, by emailing customerservice@chefjays.com or calling (702) 450-7711.
