Karl Knott, project scientist for Spacelab 1, communicates with a payload 
specialist aboard Spacelab in the Shuttle Columbia. Representing the
European  Space Agency (ESA), Dr. Knott is at a console in the payload
operations  control center (POCC) in JSC's mission control center
(45265-7); Steve  Noneman, Blue Shift mass memory unit (MMU) manager,
listens to a payload  specialist's response while other payload controllers
busy themselves at  their consoles (45268); Alternate Spacelab 1 payload
specialist Michael L.  Lampton communicates with onboard personnel during
flight day 5 of STS-9. Dr.  Lampton's console is in the POCC. In the
background is William Bock, crew  interface coordinator for the Blue Shift
