Research Information

Education:

B.S., State Univ of New York, College of Forestry at Syracuse, Forest Management, 1954; M.S., North Carolina State Univ, Forest Soils, 1961; D.F., Duke University, Forest Meteorology, 1972

Current Research:

Describe and predict forest climatology of mountain watersheds; relate stream channel geomorphology to streamflow volume and timing relationships; test best management practices (BMP) for intermittent and system forest roads and determine impacts on stream sedimentation; develop predictive tools to guide management decisions which may impact water quality.

Collaborative Research:

Support LTER (Long-Term Ecological Research) program through long-term climatology and hydrology data collection and analyses; support Region 8 riparian-zone inventory through studies of stream typing and geomorphology; provide technology transfer support to Region 8, North Carolina Forest Service, and other agencies in the area of road design BMPs; support Wayah Ranger District, National Forests in North Carolina, forest ecosystem management demonstration on Wine Spring watershed through studies of climatology, hydrology, and stream sedimentation.
