2000 "City of Paterson Ready for Census Day" (02/95) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Public Information Office CB95-O.20 301-457-2794 301-457-4067 (TTD) Brian Duncan 201-684-8477 CITY OF PATERSON READY FOR "CENSUS DAY" Census Day is March 4, 1995, and Paterson, N.J. awaits the challenge! Paterson was selected to participate in the 1995 Census Test--the first step in developing procedures for the Millennial Decennial. Oakland, Calif. and six parishes in Northwest Louisiana (Natchitoches, Bienville, De Soto, Jackson, Red River and Winn) are the other sites selected. The 1995 Census Test will evaluate new techniques such as making questionnaires available at convenient locations, mailing Spanish-language questionnaires to areas with high concentrations of Spanish-speaking households, testing statistical methods that help make the census more accurate at reduced cost and allowing people to answer the census over the phone. Ligia Jaquez, the Paterson Test Office manager, along with Brian Duncan, Census Outreach Specialist to Paterson, have worked closely with city officials, chambers of commerce, elementary and secondary education leaders, religious and service groups, representatives from community-based organizations, business leaders and the media in generating local census outreach and promotion activities and fostering community involvement within Paterson in preparation for the census test.
