OVERVIEW

The NASA Computer program CEA (Chemical Equilibrium with Applications) calculates chemical equilibrium compositions and properties of complex mixtures. Applications include assigned thermodynamic states, theoretical rocket performance, Chapman-Jouguet detonations, and shock-tube parameters for incident and reflected shocks. CEA represents the latest in a number of computer programs that have been developed at the NASA Lewis (now Glenn) Research Center during the last 45 years. These programs have changed over the years to include additional techniques. Associated with the program are independent databases with transport and thermodynamic properties of individual species. Over 2000 species are contained in the thermodynamic database. The program is written in ANSI standard FORTRAN by Bonnie J. McBride and Sanford Gordon. It is in wide use by the aerodynamics and thermodynamics community, with over 2000 copies in distribution

WHAT IS CEA ?

CEA is a program which calculates chemical equilibrium product concentrations from any set of reactants and determines thermodynamic and transport properties for the product mixture. WHAT IS CEAGUI ?

A new release of CEAgui ( version 1.0 ) is available. CEAgui is a Java Graphical Users Interface Application for the CEA2 Fortran program. CEAgui allows the user to easily create or modify an input file for the CEA2 Fortran program. CEAgui also allows the user to run the CEA2 Fortran program and view the output file. August 11, 2005 -- Bonnie J. McBride Remembered -- NEW
The CEA co-author, Bonnie J. McBride, passed away last Thursday, August 11, 2005. She was employed by NASA Glenn Research in Cleveland, OH for 48 years. Our Condolences, Thoughts and Memories go with her families.

March 10, 2005 -- Updated the CEAWeb Web site for OneNASA Web Portal.
OneNASA Web Portal is to unify all NASA Web sites and give them all a common look and feel.

May 7, 2004 -- CEAgui is available for download.
CEAgui is a Java Graphical Users Interface Application for the CEA Fortran program.

The download package includes the latest CEA Fortran Source code and the CEA related packages CAP, PAC and MISC. Please complete a Request Form to download this package.


CEA HISTORY

In the late 1940's, a small Rocket Branch at the NACA Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory had responsibility for evaluating rocket performance of various potential propellants. Two sections of this branch were concerned with experimental performance while a third section was concerned with theoretical performance.
