- Emergency Information Infrastructure Partnership (EIIP)
EIIP is a voluntary association of organizations and individuals seeking to enhance their effectiveness in coping with disasters and emergency situations by exploring opportunities for sharing information and ideas through electronic technology. This site currently includes an online interactive presentation on the HAZUS-MH loss estimation methodology titled, GIS Applications in Emergency Management Contributing to Our Understanding of Hazards, by John C. Pine, Director, Disaster Science and Management Program, Department of Environmental Studies, Louisiana State University.
- American Association for Wind Engineering (AAWE)
AAWE is a nonprofit professional organization devoted to the multi-disciplinary field of wind engineering, which considers problems related to wind and associated water loads and penetrations for buildings and structures, societal impact of winds, hurricane and tornado risk assessment, cost-benefit analysis, codes and standards, dispersion of urban and industrial pollution, wind energy, and urban aerodynamics. The November 2003 edition of AAWE's newsletter, The Wind Engineer, includes a detailed article that describes how FEMA used the HAZUS-MH Hurricane Wind Module to develop loss estimates based on the projected track and intensity of Hurricane Isabel, which at that time was threatening the east coast of the United States. The newsletter can be downloaded in PDF format from the AAWE website by first clicking on the "Information" link along the top, then choosing in the left-hand menu "News" before choosing "Archived Newsletters."
