GLICKMAN TO VISIT RIO GRANDE VALLEY EMPOWERMENT ZONE

     WASHINGTON, Oct. 11, 1996--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman will
tour the Rio Grande Valley Empowerment Zone Tuesday, October 15.  Rep. Kika
de la Garza will join the Secretary for the afternoon with a visit to the
Floodgate Project in Santa Monica, a community meeting , and a ribbon
cutting ceremony at an affordable housing project.

     The schedule for the afternoon:

     1:00 p.m.      Visit Floodgate Project
                    Santa Monica
                    [Directions: North on U.S. Hwy. 77 to F.M. 1018. At
                    F.M. 1018,     turn right heading due east.  Proceed
                    approximately 12 miles.  At this point, a caliche road
                    to the right will be marked with a sign.  Turn right
                    and proceed approximately 1/4 mile south to the
                    floodgate.]
