National Law Enforcement Week

National Law Enforcement Week was held in May to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect U.S. citizens with courage and dedication. These observances remind us of the ongoing need for vigilance against all forms of crime, especially acts of terrorism.

On May 13, 2004, U.S. Customs and Border Protection held a memorial ceremony to honor officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our borders. The ceremony was held in the courtyard adjoining the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. As bagpipers played, passers-by, visitors to the nation's capitol, CBP employees, and family members of fallen officers, all came together as part of the event, drawn by the deep emotion and dignity which characterized the ceremony.
