Customs and Border Protection Memorial Ceremony

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week was held in May to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect U.S. citizens with courage and dedication. These observances remind us of the ongoing need for vigilance against all forms of crime, especially acts of terrorism.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) held a Memorial Ceremony on May 14, 2003, to honor officers from the legacy Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and Border Patrol, who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our borders.

The ceremony was held in a courtyard adjoining the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. As bagpipers played, officers from legacy agencies carried the colors to the site chosen for the memorial celebration. Passers-by, visitors to the nation's capital and CBP employees all came together as part of the event, drawn by the deep emotion and dignity which characterized the ceremony.
