This is the next set in a continuing setof releases. This software code is considered Institutional sinceit ispart of a large, integrated MODIS Operations Data Processing System (MODAPS) operating at Goddard. The MODAPS system is used to operationally process the geo-located, calibrated radiances to Level-2 and 3 MODIS data products, in a chained production mode. As institutional algorithms, they will not run in a standalone mode without environment variable changes, ancillary data sets, math librariesand prior processing steps. It will therefore be incumbent upon the user to make the necessary changes and environment set-ups to run these algorithms. Alternatively, the user may consider using the algorithm source code and the Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document (ATBDs) as guidance in creating their own software for processing the MODIS instrument data. The algorithms are grouped by the PGE (Product Generation Executable). Each PGE page contains information such as, an overview of the source code, required inputs, output files, build and run guidelines, and additional related links. Thetwo PGEs being released are: PGE17 : Processes the 6-hourly 1 degree NCEP GDAS forecast data to generate the ancillary meteorological input required for MODAPS Oceans processing algorithms such asPGE09. The input data are generated from model forecasts of the National Weather Service's (NWS) National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS). The GDAS data are re-gridded and converted from GRIB (GRIdded Binary) format to HDF format. PGE19 : Smoothes the TOMS Column Ozone Earth Probe data and converts the data from ASCII to HDF format.for input required for MODAPS Oceans processing algorithms such as PGE09. Additional PGEs are being prepared and will be released in the near future.
