On February 11,
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) chatted online from his Washington,
D.C., office with students from Rutland Middle School's eighth-grade
class. Online video was used to communicate, so the Senator could
see and hear the students' questions and they could watch the
Senator's responses. Many Vermonters do not have the opportunity to
travel to Washington and this is one way to bring Washington into

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) spoke before a
crowd on February 9 at the 2009 Marver H. Bernstein Symposium on
Governmental Reform at Georgetown University. He spoke on the
legislative priorities for the Senate Judiciary Committee in the
111th Congress. Leahy spoke of the many issues now facing the
Committee, from filling federal court vacancies to increasing
transparency in government to forming a reconciliation and truth
commission in order to examine the last administration. Click
