FPU Workload Timeline to Support FPA ImplementationPrinter Friendly VersionTo help Fire Planning Units (FPUs) schedule work to prepare for the Fire Program Analysis System implementation, the FPA Team recommends the following timeline. Collaborate with your FPU partners to complete the work. For information on these work items, click on the links for background material Present Workload: * By February 29, 2008 Select Your Weather Station - Historic weather data is used in the Large Fire Module to develop weather streams to use in the simulation. Choose a single weather station that best represents the National Fire Danger Rating System indices to be used in modeling large fires. * Revised - By March 7, 2008 Provide Fuel Prescriptions - Develop fuel treatment prescriptions for the Large Fire Module. These prescriptions are used to build fuel treatment landscape files which the Large Fire Module draws from to simulate the impacts of fuel treatments on the FPU. * By April 1, 2008 Keep Existing FPU Boundaries - The FPA team recommends not changing Fire Planning Unit (FPU) boundaries for the 2009 simulation run. The Large Fire module runs simulations for an area that extends at least 15 kilometers out from FPU boundaries. If your FPU decides a boundary change is warranted, notify your geographic area lead and follow the direction in FPU Development Guidelines and Updating Fire Planning Unit (FPU) Boundaries papers. * Revised - By June 1, 2008 Create FMU and FWA Boundaries - The Initial Response Simulator requires Fire Planning Units to be subdivided into Fire Management Units (FMUs) and Fire Workload Areas (FWAs). Create (or review) Fire Management Unit and Fire Workload Area boundaries using FMU and FWA whitepaper guidance. Past Workload: Fire Occurrence Data Review Fire occurrence reports from 1997 through 2006 are cleaned up reflecting accurate and complete information. The Large Fire Module will draw this historic fire occurrence data from each agency's corporate data base to run simulations.
