Participated in 3-day US/Mexico Preparedness Drill with Southern AZ first responders & hospitals. Began coordination with Telemundo to pilot a CERT training program in Spanish. MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS (MRC) 1,185 Hours $59,250 Value Established the MRC Steering Committee under Pima County for risk management purposes. Received a $50,000 grant from FEMA for the Volunteer Center to support and develop MRC programs. Recruited and trained a Vaccination Strike Team of 50 nurses to assist at County immunization clinics. Recruiting physicians and other health professionals to support smallpox immunization campaign. Presented Dr. Vincent Fulginiti, in a free-public lecture on the topic of "Smallpox as a Weapon." Hosted luncheon with Dr. John Sacra, speaking on "Lessons Learned from Oklahoma City." Developed a Citizen Corps database for MRC volunteers utilizing University of Arizona students. Developed a promotional video on the Citizen Corps Council with messages from the Secretary of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, Congressman Jim Kolbe, and local Citizen Corps members. Participated in National and State Citizen Corps Conferences. Met with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. Gave presentations on MRC and VIPS best practices. Provided guidance to citizens from other cities on Citizen Corps activities and how to get started.
