WIENER BECOMES CHIEF OF THE AUCTIONS AND INDUSTRY ANALYSIS DIVISION OF THE WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU Thomas Sugrue, Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, has named Margaret Wiener Chief of the Bureau's Auctions and Industry Analysis Division. The Auctions and Industry Analysis Division is responsible for implementing the competitive bidding authority for spectrum auctions given to the Commission by the 1993 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, and revised by Congress in the 1997 Balanced Budget Act. Since July 1997, Ms. Wiener has worked in the Auctions and Industry Analysis Division, serving as Chief of the Legal Branch and as Deputy Division Chief (Legal). Prior to coming to the Commission in 1997, Ms. Wiener was of counsel at Harkins Cunningham in Washington, where she worked on competition issues related to freight railroad mergers. She has also served in the law department of Conrail in Philadelphia, where she focused on competition issues, including regulated as well as deregulated matters and antitrust, and as a litigation associate at Shearman & Sterling in New York. She earned her B.A. from Yale University and her J.D. from New York University School of Law. - FCC -
