Description: Annual, hairy or not, gland dotted, aromatic. Stem ascending to erect, 1 - 4 inches (3-10 cm), branched at base. Inflorescence, a dense spike, from plant base to top, 1/2 - 1 inch (10-25 mm) wide. Corolla 1/4 inch (4.5-6 mm), white with spots. Calyx hairy, 1/8 inch (2-3 mm), lobes 1/8 - 1/4 inch (1.5-5 mm).

Identifying Features:

1. Small annual with strong mint smell.
2. Inflorescence dense spike.
3. Several branches at base.

Distribution: Lassen, Modoc, and Shasta counties. Within public lands administered by the Alturas Field Office near Leonard Spring, northeast of Alturas and Green Place Reservoir west of Day, California. South of Doublehead Mountain on Modoc National Forest.

Habitat: Vernal pools, seasonal lakes and flats, from 3,200 to 5,100 feet (975 to 1554 meters).

Flowering Period: June - August

Similar Plants: Pogogyne zizyphoroides but inflorescence terminal and head-like, not a long spike. Corolla purple without spots and plant not branched at base, branched above.
