Summary
Electrocardiograms were recorded for Pagothenia borchgrevinki, T. bernacchii and Rhigophila dearborni while the fish were immobilised by artificial ventilation of the gills by rapid water flow over the gills. Changes to heart rate of immobilised P. borchgrevinki while recovering from 10 minutes of strenuous exercise were monitored with measurements of the cardiac, hematocrit and haemoglobin concentration recovery rates both while recovering from exercise and in response to cardioregulatory drugs (acetylcholine and adrenaline) to assess the efficacy of forced ventilation in maintaining fish for live transportation or for surgery.
