This view is of the dome associated with Thorpe's Pit along the Boone Avenue section of the Mammoth
Cave, Grand Avenue Tour. In this section of the cavern the passage is
narrow and the ceiling is high, in places spanning several levels within
the cavern. Note the scallop-like ribbing in this section of the cavern.
It is formed from the dissolution of the limestone as water cascaded (or
dripped) from above.
