Dyersburg State Community College will receive a federal grant to help
start a surgical technology certificate program. U.S. Rep. John Tanner
announced the grant.
"This is another great step toward investing in education, so Tennesseans
can learn through hands-on practice the skills they need to help the
community," Tanner said.
The 12-month program will enroll its first class of 12-15 students for
the upcoming spring semester, according to Dr. Karen Bowyer, president of
Dyersburg State Community College.
"Programs like this address a real need and I am glad that we can fulfill
that need," Bowyer said. "In a year’s time, students can train for a new job
in health care, which is an area where positions are available."
The grant, in the amount of $85,473, is available through the Delta
Regional Authority.
Tanner represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional district and
is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
