SPRUCE KNOB LAKE (WV), MONONGAHELA NF -FS, WV

Description:

Located near Spruce Knob, the highest peak in WV. Cold fogs and strong winds can occur year round. 60 miles of hiking trails criss-cross the woods. There is an observation tower atop the peak. Fishing is very popular, both at Spruce Knob Lake and the streams which feed it. There are no hook ups available. Gatewood Group is nearby for large group use.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations are taken from April through October. First come, first serve sites may be available. An extra vehicle charge will be collected at the campground. Please check in with the campground manager upon arrival. All equipment must fit on the site pad, with vehicles parking in designated areas only.

From Riverton, wv, take US Route 33 south 2 miles to Briery Gap Road (Country Road 33/4). Turn right onto Briery Gap Road. Go 2 miles to Forest Road 112, turn left and continue for 13.5 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road and the campground is 1/2 miles on the right.

From Elkins, WV, take US Route 33 to State Route 29, which is one mile west of Harman. Turn right onto SR 29, go south 18.6 miles and tum left onto Forest Road 1. Follow FR 1 for 2.5 miles.
