Towering Cumulus CloudTowering Cumulus Clouds

When the air becomes unstable, strong convection currents can cause cumulus cloud tops to grow and billow upward beyond the range of the low clouds into the middle cloud altitudes. These clouds are also known as "cumulus congestus". Other vertically advanced clouds include nimbostratus and cumulonimbus clouds.
