Research Interests

Beginning in February (1999) I have had the great opportunity to work in the Molecular Biology of Bones and Teeth Unit at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) along side Dr. Marian Young. Once I received the prestigious "Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA)," it gave me the chance to do comprehensive (clinical and laboratory) dental research.

The laboratory and clinical projects that I am currently working on are:

1) The study of biglycan, decorin and fibro-modulin proteins in single and double knockout mice, to discover the effects that these proteins have on bones and teeth. This project includes animal breeding, genotyping, as well as genetic engineering.

2) The studying and measuring of bone density of patients that have illnesses (eg. Fibrous Dysplasia) that cause mild to severe weakening in the affected bones of the body.

3) Soon I will begin a new project that includes the studying of pain and neurosenors in the mouth (an update will be posted soon).
