General ALS Publications
See ALS Publications for information
about requesting printed copies. Some of the publications listed below
are also available as PDF files.
- "Science and Technology
of Future Light Sources"
This white paper, a collaboration between four DOE national laboratories,
envisions the scientific challenges that can be met by future x-ray
sources and instrumentation and summarizes the research and development
required to achieve that vision.
- "ALS Spectrum"
ALS Spectrum is a new publication that encapsulates the same type of information
contained in the Activity Report but in a short, readable, newsletter-like
format. Featured scientific and facility developments are front-paged, and
a roundup of science highlights is provided in easily browsable summaries
with Web links. Contents also include brief reports from ALS staff and user
groups, articles about ALS people and events, and facility updates.
- "Advanced Light Source Activity Report"
The Activity Report illustrates the depth and breadth of the ALS scientific program
with a selection of research results. The report also summarizes operations
and ongoing R&D, highlights educational outreach efforts and special events,
and provides a reference for the beamlines scheduled for completion in the
near future. Printed copies of the most recent year, 2006 (LBNL-62841), are
available, upon request, from the ALS User Services Office. Previous reports
from the years 1996/97 through 2005 are available as PDF files.
- "Advanced
Light Source Beamline Design Guide: Information for Beamline Designers,
Rev. 2," LBL PUB-3114. A guide for beamline and endstation
designers.
- "Advanced Light Source Integrated
Safety Management Plan," Safety management policy defining
principles and core work functions for the ALS Division.
- ALSNews. This
biweekly electronic newsletter, available on the Web or by email, keeps
users and other interested parties informed about developments at the
ALS: scientific results, machine operations, user services and more.
- ALS Strategic Plan, January 2008
The emphasis of the new strategic plan is to keep the
ALS at the cutting edge for the next 2-3 decades by exploiting
the significant advances in accelerator and insertion-device technology
that have occurred since the ALS began operation.
- "X-Ray Data Booklet"
Published jointly by the Center for X-Ray Optics and the ALS, this handy book
offers data relating to the x-ray properties of elements, synchrotron radiation,
scattering processes, optics, and other practical information.
