QUESTION: I understand that Cassini will have a jovian periapsis of roughly 14 million kilometers. Will Cassini get anywhere "near" to the outermost moons of Jupiter?...i.e., Pasiphae, Sinope, etc...?? ANSWER from Tom Spilker on January 4, 2000: Actually, our jovian periapsis is slightly less than 10 million km. It's a bit surprising that we don't get closer to some of the satellites: we get to about 4.4 million km of Himalia, but all others have closest approaches greater than 7 million km.
