May 2000 Newsletter Image Processing Special Interest Group http://image.nih.gov ------------------------------------------------------ THANKS: Many thanks to Terry Yoo(NLM) for his presentation on Insight. Here is some follow up information from Terry: To be a part of the insight announcement e-mail list send e-mail to majordomo@public.kitware.com and in the body of your message put the text subscribe insight-announce end The temporary url for the Insight project is: http://fluorite.nlm.nih.gov/~yoo/insight ------------------------------------------------------ FYI: Also, from Terry Yoo (NLM): Please note that the Visible Human Project will be having its third conference this October at the Natcher Center. The conference will be held October 5-6 here at NIH. Abstracts are due 19 May 2000. The URL for the CFP is http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/call2000.html ------------------------------------------------------ NEW IPSIG RESOURCE (UPDATE): Our Software Resource page is still coming along well. Rakesh Mullick(DRD/CC) did a great job on the visualization section and we are now ready to start on image segmentation software. So if you know of any, please email the information to John Ostuni (ostuni@helix.nih.gov). Also, continue to send any visualization software information to Rakesh (rmullick@iname.com) and image processing packages to John Ostuni (sorry to those who have emailed the latter to me and don't see them on the page yet -- they'll be there soon) You can see our current list of software at (temporary location): http://www-ldrr.cc.nih.gov/staff/ostuni/soft_res/nih_soft_resource.html ------------------------------------------------------ FYI: Tom Zeffiro (Georgetown Univ., Neurology Dept.) will be presenting the next MEDx tutorial, titled "Statistical Methods for fMRI data analysis". This will be held May 12 in Bldg. 12A Room B45. Please try to sign up using CIT page: http://training.cit.nih.gov/coursepic.asp?lname=000001999&cname=semi so there is a record of your name. Come even if you are put on the waiting list (which you probably will be). There is plenty of room. Any questions call 402-6000. ------------------------------------------------------ FYI: The MEDx support staff is moving from building 13, Room 3W13 to building 10, Room B2S231. This move should occur around the 3rd week in May. Their phone number 301 402-6000 should remain the same. ------------------------------------------------------ FYI: Jeff Solomon (Sensor Systems) will be presenting some increased capabilities of MEDx relating to exporting of DICOM (MR, CT and CR) images and the pitching of these images to a dicom catcher. Jeff will also be presenting a standalone dicomtool which will "wrap" raw image data in order to convert them to dicom(MR). One can then save the dicom images and/or pitch them to a dicom catcher. This talk will be of particular interest to anyone who is currently thinking of ways to get non-dicom images into a PACS or into some other type of dicom formatted storage. This work was funded by CC/LDRR so it is available for free to the NIH campus. Date: 6/1 Time: 10am Place: Large Radiology Conference Room (Bldg. 10, Room 1C520) ------------------------------------------------------ FYI: The NIH Fellows Committee asked us to distribute the following information: >NIH Fellows Competition: FARE 2001 (May 1 -May 31, 2000) > >The seventh annual Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) 2001 >competition will again provide recognition for outstanding >scientific research performed by intramural postdoctoral fellows. >Winners of FARE will each receive a $1000 travel award to use for >attending and presenting their work at a scientific meeting. > >Fellows who apply to FARE submit an abstract of their research, >which will be evaluated anonymously on scientific merit, >originality, experimental design and overall quality/presentation. >The travel award must be used between October 1, 2000 and September >30, 2001. > >The FARE 2001 competition is open to postdoctoral IRTA's, Visiting >Fellows, and other fellows with less than 5 years total postdoctoral >experience in the NIH intramural research program. As most of you know, there is a database of all image processing researchers at our web site (http://image.nih.gov/Research.html). This site is viewed by many people both inside and outside of NIH. In fact, many people here have gotten their jobs by using this database to find the right people to contact. When you get a chance, please look at your entry and update if it is out of date (http://image.nih.gov/About.html). If you don't have an entry and are doing image processing on the NIH campus please submit an entry through our website. ------------------------------------------------------------- NEWSLETTER INFORMATION: If you would like to include something in next months newsletter, please send email to ipnews@image.nih.gov.
