BLOCK IDENTIFICATION: MDI Participation in Joint Commissioning Activities 3. PURPOSE: Obtain calibration and jitter data during coordinated pointing and disturbance tests 4. SUB-BLOCKS: (see Note 1) NR. IDENTIFICATION 6.1 Off-Pointing Calibration (C. Frohlich) MDI will collect images continuously during the de-pointing test, which takes 30 arcsec steps out to 10 arcminutes in each axis, N/S and E/W. 6.2 Calibration Rolls (R. Howard) MDI will collect images for at least 30 minutes at each roll angle in this test. 6.3 S/C Short Term Pointing Stability (R. Bush) MDI will collect ISS data on the pointing stability and jitter during mechanism operations of several instruments and the reaction wheels. 6.4 Intercalibration JOP 4: SUMER/CDS/EIT/MDI Coalignment MDI will take magnetograms and intensity images during this JOP to establish the coalignment. 5. SUB-BLOCKS TABLE: (see Note 2) NR. - DURATION - PREVIOUS - COMMANDING - TELEMETRY - POINTING 6.1 11 hr After 2.12 NRT-s H2 Pitching, Yawing 6.2 4 hr After 2.12 NRT-s H2 Rolling 6.3 8 hr After 2.11 NRT-s H2 Nom. 6.4 1 hr After 3.5 NRT-s H2 Nom. 6. SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS: (see Note 3) 6.1-2 operations are scheduled in conjunction with the special maneuvers. Instrument portions of 6.3 may be done all in one 8-hour pass; or individual experiments can be done separately, with another scheduled period of combined operations. Reaction wheel measurements should be done at times judged most interesting by S/C experts, i.e., times when smallest and largest disturbances are expected. Individual measurements of one instrument or reaction wheels can be done in < 1 hour each. 6.4 may be considered as one of the campaigns requested in sub-blocks 5.2 and 5.3; if it is desired to run earlier, the period of sub-block 4.1 (Observing Program Checkout) is also appropriate. 7. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (see Note 4) All require coordination among experiments & S/C VC-2 data is required for much (if not all) of 6.3 8. SUCCESS CRITERIA AND/OR EXPECTED OUTPUT: 6.1 & 6.2 MDI acquires images for off-line calibration of roll and offset pointing sensitivity of Doppler and intensity measurements. 6.3 MDI acquires depointing and jitter measurements to assess the quiescent pointing stability and the level of various disturbances produced by other experiments and mechanisms. 9.
