Minutes of the Aug 15, 2003 Tevatron Dept Meeting 1. news - Tev Alignment review is over, nice report delivered, thanks to Ray and Peter Garbincius for organizational efforts. 2. Bruce on Tev stores: record luminosity 49e30 in store #2887 last Sunday, record N_pbar = 1010e9 in the same store, since store #2979 we have raised RF voltage and it helps to reduce losses on ramp but makes losses in squeeze higher, early last week we had problems with losses at B11 in seq12-18 of the squeeze - they seem to be related to higher vert orbit position at B11, correctors around that area are already saturated plus we see some 20 urad continuous pitching of Q3 quad, reliability problems with RF have not gone after longitudinal damper was disconnected, proton lifetime at the beginning of stores is worse than 4-6 week ago - as the result CDF is often afraid to turn on the SVX at the beginning of store when LOSTP>25kHz (ops found that coupling and vert chromaticity are of some help). 3. Jerry reports that proton BLT is ready to try (though yet slow and can be used for every other proton transfer), beam phase detector also works but is not calibrated yet. 3. Tan compared recent measurements of the chromaticities in squeeze and at LB with old ones - differences are within 1-5 units. Vladimir mentioned that while measured chromaticities at LB are about 20 in both planes, new Schottky reports 20H and 13V for both beams. He used page W101 for fast Schottky measmnt's and observes that all spectra are OK and fit quality is good except for Hor P spectrum. W101 reports that pbar Q_x > Q_y that is opposite to what we had in May. 4. Yuri looked into octupole rewiring scheme proposed by Peter and found it's OK, except vert diff chromaticity circuit will be weak. Jerry mentioned that there is a number of octupoles which are not connected to PSs and, thus, "invisible" - Peter will explore whether those can be wired and used for the purposes of diff chromaticity correction or introduction of tune spread. Yuri also requested installation of a 50 T/m normal sextupole at A0 (next to dump) for a better control of differential coupling (+ to reduce S6 current). 5. Valery and Peter did lattice measurements with closed orbit bumps, they see that reduction of S6 current led to reduction of corresponding lattice imperfections. Valery is also finishing plan how to make Tev lattice ideal at injection and potentially reduce emittance blowup at injection. 6. Vladimir looked into remarkable events on the Tev ramp : synchrotron frequency crosses 60Hz at 340 Hz, separators saturated at 500 GeV, dE/dt maximizes at 16 GeV/s between 500 and 600 GeV. A " knee " in pbar intensity occurs at 500 GeV. Minutes recorded by V. Shiltsev, edited by R. Moore
