Congressman Scott Selected as Subcommittee Chairman
House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry

Washington, Jan 16 -

Yesterday, the Democratic Members of the House Committee on Agriculture met in an organizational meeting and selected Congressman David Scott to serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry.

“I want to thank Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson and my colleagues for selecting me as the new Chairman of the Livestock Subcommittee,” said Representative Scott. “As one of the nations’ top producers of poultry and with thriving pork and cattle industries, Georgia is an important player in the livestock world. I am excited about the opportunity to represent Georgia on this important subcommittee. I look forward to working this session of Congress to keep America’s meat and protein products safe and healthy."

Jurisdiction of the subcommittee includes oversight of: livestock; dairy; poultry; meat; seafood and seafood products; inspection, marketing, and promotion of such commodities; aquaculture; animal welfare; and grazing. Poultry production is the largest agriculture industry in Georgia.

The Democratic Caucus will vote to approve the subcommittee chairmanships soon.
