DFEA Board Status maintained by Jamieson Olsen jamieson@fnal.gov ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Property Sticker: 566594 Top DFEA: 31466 0009 Bot DFEA: 31466 0004 Orginally installed in PC03-13 (trigger sectors 62/63) 05 Nov 2005: Pulled from platform. Spurrious reset. Observed reset at CTS. Reset monitor (U22) appeared to be pulling the board into reset, likely caused by noisy power. Install 500uF cap. Solder press fit connectors. Replace the reset pullup resistor R10 with 100 ohm pullup to +3.3V. Stable at CTS. 05 Nov 2005: Reinstall in PC03-13. Resets continue after some time. 12 Nov 2005: Pulled from platform. 14 Nov 2005: Some evidence to suggests that the reset monitor asserts reset when the chip is heated to ~50C or more. Not conclusive, but removing reset monitor anyway. All electrolytic caps replaced with 100uF ceramics. Install 100 ohm pullup resistor to +3.3V on the buffered reset net. Burn in at CTS, no resets thus far. Lift U19 pin 3 (output of reset buffer) and tie high to VCC with 100 ohm resistor. Now the only things that could cause the board to reset are: U49, the transition board, or the FPGAs. 15 Nov 2005: Installed on platform by SG and MB. The buffered reset immediately went to 0.5V and was fixed by replacing the transition board (which had a bad buffer input 74LCX16244). It appears now that this board was working correctly and the spurrious reset problems were caused by the transition board input. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Property Sticker: 566552 Top DFEA: 10 Bot DFEA: ? 14 Nov 2005: DFEA spare board built up with VIRTEX-E parts. WARNING: these boards are not bitstream compatible with the DFEAs. F1 replaced with 10A picofuse. Solder pressfit connectors. Solder vias on the reset traces. Bottom DFEAe does not program via JTAG, though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Property Sticker: 566451 Top DFEA: ? Interconnect link test OK. Output link test OK. 15 Nov 2005: Does not init from backplane... needs more work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Serial Number: WKH06-001 (pre-production motherboard) Top DFEA: 100 Bot DFEA: 101 (both are pre-production) 22 May 2002: pulled from platform, top DFEA init problems, tick and turn does not increment 15 Nov 2005: fuse mod, clean the board. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Serial Number: WKH06-005 (pre-production motherboard) Top DFEA: 104 Bot DFEA: 105 (both are pre-production) 28 Mar 2003: pulled from platform; bot DFEA init problems, tick and turn does not increment. 15 Nov 2005: fuse mod, clean the board. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Property Sticker: 566544 Top DFEA: 31466 0011 Bot DFEA: 31466 0022 18 May 2005: Pulled from platform. Resetting sporatically TS48/49. 07 Jul 2005: Replace PTC device with 10A fuse. Going back in for TS78/79. 26 Jul 2005: Pulled from platform.. still resetting. 27 Jul 2005: replace more electrolytic caps, solder pressfits, link test ok, the board is not resetting at the test stand. 12 Nov 2005: installed on platform in PC03-3-13. Sporadic resets. Pulled from the platform, lift U22 pin 6 (buffered reset) and reinstall. Still restting. 15 Nov 2005: Pulled from platform. Problem turned out to be a bad transition board in PC03-3-13. This board is probably OK, but it will need to go through more testing. Resolder U22.6. 20 Jan 2006: Installed in PC03-3-7 TS50/51. Working fine. 9 Feb 2006: Causing major problems with the backplane status, DFEC generates DTACK errors whenever it tries to communicate with this board. Really screwed up. Needs to be pulled. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Property Sticker: 566591 Top DFEA: 31466 0064 Bot DFEA: 31466 0039 20 Jan 2006: Pulled from the platform. TS50 (upper daughterboard) medium pt chip appears to be losing init. Symptoms are garbled doublet count and missing medium pt tracks. The counts don't go to zero so something is still going on with that chip. Hard reset does not help. Reinit brings it back to normal. 9 Feb 2006: Fuse and cap mod, hopefully that will cleanup the power enough to keep the Medium PT chip from getting into this strange state. Burning in now. Ready for installation tomorrow morning.
