ISSUE: HIV infected people have an emotional aspect that needs a constant interactive relationship with health professionals. This type of relationship contributes a more successful outcome during these difficult time and improves the quality of their life. PROJECT: HIV infected people that attended the Grupo de Ayuda Mutua "VIVIR" were given advice in Lima. It was started with indepth interviems, identification of their problems and trough counseling possible solution were provided. It included visits to their homes, where the VIH infected person received needed specific counselling and health care assistance (for example: shots, threat wounds, etc.). RESULT: Participation with these people living with HIV was good. It took about 1 year of participation for us to establish a good relationship with them. Relationship established with forty counselling visits sometimes at home and sometimes at other places like the church. People told about how they felt when were diagnosed with HIV. Throughout the year people talked about their personal crisis while living with HIV. So, I tried to help these HIV positive people to get solutions to their problems through a self-directed learning behavior program. LESSONS LEARNED: The interative relationship through counselling gave an opportunity for people living with HIV to show their emotions and problems, an then, for us to find solutions to their problems.
