Description/Abstract | This patent describes a process for promoting chemical reactions in a reaction chamber by passing an aeriform fluid upwardly through a fluidized stratified mass of subdivided small-size solids.^These are confined in the chamber from beneath the mass.^The said solids are at a temperature suitable for promoting chemical reactions and consist of particles having different physical and catalytic characteristics.^The process continues by introducing a volatilizable liquid into one of the layers of said stratified mass above the bottom thereof.^This causes the said liquid to completely vaporize in said mass with the vapors forming a combined stream having sufficient velocity to maintain said solids in a fluidized condition in said chamber.^The process continues by promoting a chemical reaction in said stream while passing through said chamber in contact with said solids, at least one of the components of said combined stream entering said reaction.^The stream contains at least one valuable reaction product which is recovered.^The fluidized mass of solids consists of a plurality of different layers with the particles of one layer consists largely of different catalysts from those of an adjacent layer. |
