WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Kit Bond today spoke on the Senate floor in support of fellow Missourian and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations nominee, former Senator John Danforth. Bond praised Senator Danforth for his unfailing integrity and urged his colleagues to unanimously approve his nomination.

"Jack Danforth is an outstanding individual who will have great responsibilities serving the United States as an ambassador at the United Nations. Now, most of us who are familiar with Jack know of his many accomplishments and attributes, but there's one quality that always comes to mind. The people who have worked with him, the people who have had an opportunity to watch him in action say that one quality is 'integrity.' This is a man of great integrity as well as dedication, compassion, and even a dry sense of humor when appropriate," said Bond.

"I could not think of someone who is better able to serve the United States. When our reputation and our status in the world is being questioned we need a man of Jack Danforth's fairness and integrity to represent us in the United Nations, to reach out to other Nations. He will know when to assert our nation's sovereignty and how to do so with a spirit of humbleness and cooperation."

Last week Bond introduced Senator Danforth at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's confirmation hearing, which voted Danforth out of the Committee unanimously.

Bond served Missouri twice as Governor and now continues his service to Missourians in the United States Senate.
