Research Project:
MOLECULAR SYSTEMATICS OF SIBLING SPECIES IN THE APHELINUS VARIPES COMPLEX
Location: Beneficial Insects Introduction Research Unit, Newark, DE
Project Number: 1926-22000-017-04
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Feb 01, 2003
End Date: Mar 30, 2006
Objective:
Develop a phylogeny for populations in the Aphelinus varipes complex from several host species and geographic regions.
Approach:
(a) sequence multiple individuals from different populations of Aphelinus attacking the aphid genera Diuraphis and Rhopalosiphum. Multiple genes (i.e. ITS2, COI and COII) will be sequenced for each sample as is deemed appropriate; (b) Provide a phylogenetic analysis of the data for the populations being sequenced; (c) Draw inferences about potential host associations and speciation events for the different parasitoid populations or species.
