The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention is accepting applications for fiscal year 2006 for grants to support expansion of methamphetamine prevention interventions and/or infrastructure development. This program addresses the growing problem of methamphetamine abuse and addiction by assisting localities to expand prevention interventions that are effective and evidence-based and/or to increase capacity through infrastructure development. The goal is to intervene effectively to prevent, reduce or delay the use and/or spread of methamphetamine abuse. Prevention of Methamphetamine Abuse grants are authorized under Section 519E of the Public Health Service Act, as amended. This announcement addresses Healthy People 2010 focus area 26 (Substance Abuse). |

Award Information |

It is expected that up to $3.3 million will be available to fund 9-11 awards in FY 2006. Annual awards are expected to be from $300,000 to $350,000 per year in total costs (direct and indirect) for up to 3 years. Proposed budgets cannot exceed $350,000 in any year of the proposed project. Annual continuation awards will depend on the availability of funds, grantee progress in meeting project goals and objectives, and timely submission of required data and reports. Cost sharing is not required in this program, and applications will not be screened out on the basis of cost sharing. Awards will be made as grants. |
