BLM Grand Junction field office to acknowledge volunteers

GRAND JUNCTION, CO—Public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office benefit from volunteers and their efforts in on-the-ground maintenance and improvement projects on BLM public lands.  The GJFO is honoring its hard-working volunteers during a BLM All Employee Meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.

“Volunteers provide an invaluable service to the GJFO, and their ongoing stewardship of our public lands benefits everyone—not just the BLM,” said Field Manager Catherine Robertson.  “Not only do volunteers help the BLM achieve management goals, the program also creates a strong stewardship ethic.”

GJFO volunteers contributed over 22,750 volunteer hours in fiscal year 2004.  This is a significant contribution to local communities and the BLM public lands surrounding them.

The GJFO is responsible for the management and stewardship of 1.2 million acres of public lands in western Colorado.  The varied landscapes, ranging from red rock deserts to pinyon-juniper woodlands to river terrain, provide a wealth of resources and opportunities for public use and enjoyment.
