Breast Cancer Awareness

Ambassador Speckhard met Hala Moddelmog, President of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Brother Charles Anthony ("Brother Charlie") on September 18.  The American NGO is the largest breast cancer organization in the world.  In Greece, the Ormylia Foundation’s “Panagia Philanthropini Center” screens thousands of village women for the disease every year.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, based in the United States, is dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage, empowering people and ensuring equal access for all.  It is the sponsor of the widely-known "Race for the Cure," held in cities around the world to raise funds.  It also has a long-time partnership with the Panagia Philanthropini Center, where, since 1982, over 24,600 women have been examined for breast and cervical cancer.  The mission of the center is to comfort and alleviate the suffering of human beings with emphasis on the poor and working class public without preference to race, religion, gender, or creed.
