Language and Literature: Albania

Created and maintained by the
 European Division
Collections and Services Directorate

Standard Albanian is based largely on the Tosk dialect of southern Albania and only partially on the Gheg dialect of northern Albania. For histories of the development of the Albanian language and alphabet, consult also the websites described under Albania: General Resources. For information pertaining to minorities and their languages in Albania, see Albania: Society. Researchers should also consult Central and Eastern Europe: Language and Literature, a selection of the most informative websites from international, regional and other organizations that cover these subjects in all countries of Eastern Europe.
