Betelgeuse - Storm Summary
It
took quite awhile to get our second lake effect event for the season, and
it produced a respectable snowfall to the southeast of Lake Erie across
portions of northern Chautauqua and northwest Cattaraugus counties.
The maximum reported snowfall was 10 inches at Forestville. This
event occurred under northwest flow and the snow off Lake Erie was actually
a result of a multi-lake connection to an upstream snowband over Lake Huron.
Our snow spotters indicated snowfall rates of an inch an hour as well as
treacherous roads across northern Chautauqua county. We often see
these types of bands develop under well aligned northwest flow. On
the morning of the 18th a very marginal 3 to 6 inches of snow occurred
to the southeast of Lake Ontario between Rochester and Oswego. Unfortunately,
we were not able to archive any satellite or radar data from this event.
