Clifton Jones, Omaha HUD Field Office Director and Kitty A. Amaya, Equal Opportunity Specialist, presented planners to Mrs. Monica Wynn's fifth grade class at Edison Elementary School, on February 26, 2008. The entire class of 23 students wrote essays, as part of the HUD's Black History Month Celebration. Jeremiah Amaya, the son of Kitty Amaya, also participated in the essay writing contest. Essays portrayed each student's dream of equality and what Black History Month means to them. Mr. Jones and Ms. Amaya made congratulatory remarks to Mrs. Wynne's class for their participation in the essay contest and distributed zip leather-like planners to each student. Planners were donated by Pamela Battle-King, Blue Cross Blue Shield. Each planner contained a book marker; reading light, HUD's pens and pencils and a 2-year pocket calendar. Mrs. Wynne was also presented a plaque from HUD for her directions to students on how to conduct research for their essays.

The top three essay writers from Edison presented their essays to HUD staff during a luncheon at the HUD office, on February 25th.
