The pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) is a shy and solitary bird. If it becomes frightened, it will hide in aquatic vegetation or dive below the water's surface. The grebe also will dive for its food, which consists of crawfish, perch, sunfish, catfish, and many types of insects.
