Ambassador Garza Congratulates Mexican Government on Significant
Seizure of Cocaine
Statement by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza
Mexico City, October 5, 2007- “I congratulate the government
of Mexico and President Calderon for another victory today
in the battle against drug traffickers and criminals, a very
significant seizure of approximately 10 tons of cocaine and
the detention of seven individuals in Tampico, Tamaulipas.
“I especially commend the dedicated Mexican military and
law enforcement officials who risk their lives daily in the
fight against those who brazenly kill and poison innocent
lives for money.
“The unwavering commitment of the Calderon administration,
including the Secretariat of National Defense, PGR, SIEDO,
AFI and a range of law enforcement elements, to pursue, confront,
and disband the armed criminal gangs operating in Mexico,
is having an immediate and successful impact on the drug cartels
and in blocking their criminal operations. Today marks another
historic success for the Mexican government’s counter-drug
initiatives.
“The United States government remains strongly committed
to working together with our Mexican partners in the common
struggle against drug trafficking and organized crime. This
crucial bilateral cooperation is in the interest of our citizens
on both sides of the border.”
